「混んでいる山手線とかは？」
「でも、たとえばローカル線は人があまり乗らないよ。また今よりも、昔は自動車を持つ人も少なく、飛行機も不便だったからね」
「でも、国鉄の車両はまだ残っているんだね。185系、キハ40系とか」 結局は車両のことが、気になるのでしょうか？ 父の趣味である国鉄型車両での小さな旅に、付き合ってもらったときの会話でした。

I told him about the financial difficulty of JNR. But he responded that Yamanote line or Shinkansen carry many people and look profitable, so I explained about the deficit in the lines of rural areas. Besides, I pointed out the inefficiency of public organisation and effect of motorization and airlines. It is stimulative to have such discussion with my son.
